Trips with Kids is a newsletter and blog for international parents who love to travel independently and authentically with their kids.

The type of travel Trips with Kids covers doesn't easily fit one definition. It's a mix of relaxation, culture, adventure, good food, fun (for the whole family), and a bit of (good value) luxury. Importantly: it's about trips that are rewarding for both parents and kids.

It's designed for international parents with kids aged 0-12, who:

  • Are well-traveled, open-minded, and curious
  • Love discovering new places and experiencing new things, and want to keep doing that with their kids
  • Want to be able to travel as much as before they had kids (or more)
  • Are short on time and ideas for travel that fits the different needs of their family.

It provides them with:

  • Travel inspiration
  • Practical and actionable tips from our trips with kids
  • Travel trends and things that can enhance trips with kids
  • Content that's fun and interesting to read, whether they are planning a trip soon or not

πŸ‘€ More about Trips with Kids

πŸ‘‹
Hi, I'm Dan Fennessy, creator of Trips with Kids. My first overseas trip was when I was 18 months old. I've been traveling ever since. With my own family a lot the last few years. I'll share more about my journey in the next newsletter.

🌎 Places We've Been: Zakynthos πŸ‡¬πŸ‡·

Places we've been with our kids, that we loved.

πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ Most travel blogs we read said Zakynthos wasn't the best Greek island for kids. We did a ton of our own research (as we always do), and went anyway. Our whole family loved it!

The highlight of our trip was the day we skippered our own boat. Cruising around at our own pace, discovering cliffs and caves, jumping off the boat into crystal-clear water, was magic!

Our Places We've Been Guides cut to the chase: where we stayed, highlights of what we did, and some photos. That's all you really need, right?

🧭 Discoveries

Travel trends & things to enhance trips with kids.

  • ✈️ The cheapest time to book flights, according to Skyscanner's Savings Generator (we're always wondering when's best to book)
  • πŸ”€ Free family home swaps was created specifically for parents traveling with kids (haven't tried this yet, but keen to)
  • πŸ“š Worldschooling is trending (homeschooling with travel)
  • 🌳 Cabiner: cabins in National Parks, only accessible by foot (or boat - see pic above). No WiFi encourages guests to truly connect with nature
  • πŸ–Ό Relive your trips in print, by creating your own Travel Photo Book (get 20% off with code: TWODAY)
  • 𑁍 The White Lotus is heading to Thailand for Season 3 (we loved Season 2 in Sicily! Did you watch it?)

🀿 Deep Dive: Are Digital Nomads Ruining Everything? 😠

We did the digital nomad thing a few times during Covid, and love the idea of working and traveling more often (with our kids), but...

As nomads flock to cities like Lisbon and Mexico City, locals are feeling the impact of gentrification and rising cost of living. This series explores the complex relationship between digital nomads and host communities.

Global Gentrificationβ€”Are Digital Nomads Ruining Everything? (Part 1 of 4)
The first edition of a four-part series of Substack Letters exploring the issues, realities and impacts of digital nomads on the global gentrification landscape.

Especially true for trips with kids:

"Travel isn't always pretty. It isn't always comfortable. Sometimes it hurts, it even breaks your heart. But that's okay. The journey changes you; it should change you."

β€” Anthony Bourdain
